EVS-100/600 Certified
for Cessna Caravan
|
Russell, PA (Aug 24, 2009) FORWARD VISION
SYSTEMS, INC. is pleased to announce the
availability of an FAA-approved STC kit for
installation of the EVS-100 and -600 Enhanced
Vision Systems (EVS) on the Cessna Caravan
(models 208, 208B).
The STC was designed and developed by Cary
Foster and Sharmaine Vestal, Co-owners of
One Sky Aviation, a full service aviation
maintenance facility based in
Anchorage, Alaska. One Sky Aviation is
an authorized dealer/installer of Forward Vision
EVS systems, and has worked extensively with the
Company on a number of previous STC development
projects.
Cary Foster of
One Sky Aviation stated, "As an STC
developer, pilot, and long-time
EVS operator, I can attest to the enhanced
level of situational awareness associated with
the use of these products." He added that
"Working cooperatively with the
Anchorage (FAA)
ACO, we have developed an STC to enhance the
safety of one of the most operationally diverse
aircraft in general/commercial aviation-the
Cessna Caravan."
Patrick Farrell, CEO of Forward Vision observed
that "The award of this FAA-approved STC for the
Caravans brings the total to 162 makes/models of
aircraft with the ability to add a certified
Enhanced Vision unit. Farrell expressed his
appreciation to colleagues at Max Viz (the
manufacturer of the infrared cameras) and One
Sky, noting their respective roles in bringing
these affordable EVS units to the marketplace
and, he said, "making flying safer for the
broader base of GA operators"
Dave Hirschman, Senior Editor of AOPA Pilot
magazine has been flying the EVS-100 equipped
Sweepstakes Cirrus since it was
installed. He observed, "Having Forward Vision's
EVS-100 in AOPA's 2009 "Let's Go Flying SR22"
dramatically enhances situational awareness and
safety in the cockpit. It literally turns
darkness into daylight and allows pilots to see
obstacles during taxi, on the runway, and in
flight." Hirschman said that, "The unit is
simple to use and interpret," adding that
"flying the EVS-100 is intuitive and requires no
pilot programming or adjustments other than
brightness of the display."
The EVS-100 is the most recent generation EVS
technology designed, certified and manufactured
by Max-Viz, Inc. and refined to Forward Vision
specifications for the
General Aviation market. Elliott
Troutman, CEO of Max Viz, pointed out that, "
The EVS-100 and -600 are the perfect choices for
the GA pilot who appreciates the value of being
able to see at night, or further than the naked
eye in reduced visibility conditions."
The EVS-100/600 is a single LRU unit, weighs
less than 1.5 pounds and mounts like
any external antenna. EVS units and
installation kits are available through Forward
Vision directly or through one of their
authorized dealers/installers.
