sensor 3DForward Vision Provides EVS System for "AOPA Let's Go Flying Sweepstakes"

Russell, PA (July 2, 2009) Forward Vision Systems, Inc. announced that AOPA has selected the Company's EVS-100 Enhanced Vision System (EVS) for installation on the 2009 "Let's Go Flying Sweepstakes" Cirrus SR-22.

"We are proud to have the most current general aviation EVS technology, the EVS-100, on board the AOPA sweepstakes aircraft," expressed Patrick Farrell, Founder & CEO of Forward Vision. "Enhanced Vision provides the pilot a uniquely improved view of the world outside the cockpit in reduced visibility and at night, helping flying families like mine and yours get home safely." In recognizing AOPA's selection of his Company's product, Farrell added his appreciation for the efforts of associate companies Max-Viz and OneSky Aviation for their roles in making EVS-100 technology available to the broader GA operator base.

EVS systems--commonly known as infrared or thermal imaging cameras--turn night into day for the pilot and help to penetrate haze, fog, smoke and precipitation 8 to 10 times further than the human eye. In February 2009, the EVS-100 received the first FAA-approved STC for installation on the Cirrus SR20/22 aircraft. The unit is now certified on 160 models of general aviation aircraft, including most Cessna single-engine models.  Farrell stressed that, as a safety-conscious group of individuals, AOPA members will especially appreciate the added margin of comfort that EVS technology brings to their operations, both on the ground and in the air.

Dave Hirschman, Senior Editor of AOPA Pilot magazine, has been flying the EVS-100 equipped Cirrus since it was installed. He observed, "Having Forward Vision's EVS-100 in AOPA's 2009 Sweepstakes Let's Go Flying SR22 dramatically enhances situational awareness and safety in the cockpit. It literally turns darkness into daylight and allows pilots to see obstacles during taxi, on the runway, and in flight."  Hirschman said that, "The unit is simple to use and interpret," adding that "flying the EVS-100 is intuitive and requires no pilot programming or adjustments other than brightness of the display."

The EVS-100 is the most recent generation EVS technology designed, certified and manufactured by Max-Viz, Inc. and refined to Forward Vision specifications for the General Aviation market. Elliott Troutman, CEO of Max Viz, pointed out that, "The EVS-100 is an extension of EVS systems originally designed for high altitude jets and turbine helicopters and features Long-Wave Infrared (LWIR) sensing, excellent grey scale presentation and a sunlight shield to prevent sensor damage.  The Forward. Vision ® EVS 100 is the perfect choice for the GA pilot who appreciates the value of being able to see at night and further than the naked eye in reduced visibility conditions."

Hirschmann lauded the EVS-100 as an advance in technology designed for the GA pilot formerly available only to the most sophisticated business jets. "Flying with the EVS-100 is like wearing night-vision goggles without all the cumbersome hardware or required training," he said. "Forward Vision's unit will be a regular part of all our future night flights--both IFR and VFR.  In fact, we'll use the system from engine start to shutdown, day or night."

Cary Foster of One Sky Aviation worked with Forward Vision on the STC for the Cirrus installation.  He stated, "Working cooperatively with the Anchorage ACO, we have developed the STC for the integration of Enhanced Vision technology.  Installation of the EVS-100 via this STC will have a dramatic impact on risk mitigation and the enhancement of flight safety of Cirrus pilots and passengers around the world."
